Jordan Lenchitz, Indian Hill High School class of 2014, was recently commissioned to compose a choral piece for the Cincinnati Choral Society (CCS). Jordan is completing his undergraduate degree at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University - Bloomington, studying Music Composition. Phil Clary, a music teacher at Indian Hill High School and the Artistic Director for CCS,asked Jordan to set to music the winning poem from the CCS Fall 2016  Poetry Writing Competition. Fifty-four high schools in the Cincinnati area were asked to submit poems for the competition.

Mercedes Goldberg, a Senior at Anderson High School, won the competition with her poem, "HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A RAY OF SUNLIGHT?" The poem, coupled with Jordan's score, will be premiered as a special feature on CCS's upcoming May concerts "The Poet Speaks - A Choral Presentation of Great Poetry". The 40-voice CCS, one of Cincinnati's premier auditioned choruses, will present additional selections with texts that are great poetry in their own right. The centerpiece of the concerts will be “FROSTIANA” (Seven Country Songs), poems of Robert Frost, set to music by Randall Thompson. This 30-minute set will be accompanied by a nine-piece chamber orchestra. Other works performed by CCS will include poems by Shakespeare, Dickinson, Burns, and Yeats; additional composers include Lauridsen, Rutter, Mulholland, and Irving Berlin.
