Despite a fairly rainy summer season, picture perfect weather greeted record crowds at Indian Hill’s annual Independence Day Parade held on July 4th.  Expertly organized by Village volunteers Barbara Sharp and Leigh Ann Meurer, along with Recreation Coordinator Jack Alley, the after-parade party at Stephan Field was an event to remember, with everything from pony rides and ice cream to face painting and inflatables. Many residents took time out to visit the newly opened Fire Station and take tours provided by fire department staff.

Grand Marshall of the parade was long-time Village resident Paul C. Riordan, who has served as the Clerk/Comptroller for the Village since 1981. During his 35 year tenure, Mr. Riordan has been instrumental in keeping Village finances in impeccable order. During this time, Mr. Riordan has shared his accounting expertise with 34 council members, 15 mayors, 4 City Managers, and 4 Finance Directors.

Among the celebrities participating in this year’s parade were Indian Hill’s Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team, current Division II State Champions and Anna Podojil who earned a State Championship title for the 200 meter in Track & Field this spring.  Of course, there were also the annual favorite entries, such as the Camargo Hunt, the Indian Hill Mother’s Group, and the Indian Hill Club’s Wahoos swim and dive team.

Perhaps the highlight of the Stephan Field activities were the various competitions that were held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. The pie-eating contests were hotly contested but not nearly as photogenic as the best decorated dog contest which yielded several crowd favorites. Jak Higgins, a Shelty mix, garnered first place for both attire and a winning personality, while bull dogs Hoss and Bueller Betts shared the second place title.  Third place went to Gibson Wenker, a handsome Dalmation who seemed happiest with his award. Here’s a look back at all the fun that was had that day!
