Tee Off for Type 1

Local non-profit raising money for Type 1 Diabetes with Inaugural Golf Outing

By Mary Casey-Sturk

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported in 2021: 1.7 million adults aged 20 years or older—or 5.7% of all U.S. adults with diagnosed diabetes—reported both having type 1 diabetes and using insulin. 304,000 children and adolescents younger than age 20 years—or 30 per 10,000 U.S. youths—have type 1 diabetes.

Mary Claire Simpson is one of these people.

Born and raised in Fort Thomas, Simpson, who manages programs and fundraisers at T1D Warriors, shares her personal connection to this new venture. “After living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) for 17 years, I recently joined the passionate team at T1D Warriors.”  Adding, “It’s meaningful for me to incorporate something that has affected me since childhood into my professional life. Finally, I get to impact the lives of people like me for a living.”

Simpson continues, “At T1D Warriors, our values are rooted in empowerment, community, and unwavering advocacy. We believe that every individual impacted by Type 1 Diabetes is a true “Warrior,” deserving of comprehensive support, education, and a strong network to thrive. We strive to provide resources that help manage the daily complexities of T1D, connect individuals and families, and champion for better understanding and care within the broader community. It’s a passion project for me, driven by my own journey and the desire to make a tangible difference for others facing similar challenges.”

Tee Off for Type 1 to Help

“To further our mission and fund crucial programs, we are hosting our inaugural Golf Outing.” Adding, “This event promises a day of fun and connection, all while supporting our vital work. We believe it’s a fantastic opportunity for individuals and businesses in the greater Cincinnati/NKY area, including our wonderful Fort Thomas community, to come together for a great cause.”

“As a native of Fort Thomas, I know firsthand the strong sense of community and generosity that defines our town”. Shares Simpson.
