Through a partnership with the Indian Hill Historical Society, Cincinnati Country Day School had the distinct honor of hosting Professor Akhil Reed Amar, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University and one of the nation’s foremost constitutional scholars. A top constitutional scholar, Professor Amar has earned national honors, advised Congress, and been cited in over 50 Supreme Court cases by Justices across the political spectrum.
Throughout the day, he engaged our 8th grade and Upper School students in lively discussions about the U.S. Constitution, its enduring relevance, and the civic responsibility we all share in understanding the principles on which our democracy stands. Over lunch with faculty and students, Professor Amar shared insights from his recent work and encouraged all to think critically about how history informs today’s challenges. Later that evening, he presented to the community, expanding on how America’s founding ideals have evolved through generations of debate, reform, and renewal. “In order to uphold our democracy, all of us share a responsibility in reading and learning about our nation,” he emphasized.
We are deeply grateful to Professor Amar for inspiring our community to read, reflect, and engage thoughtfully with the living document that defines our nation.
