Braves secure six of the top 10 elementary teams in the city and state, including first place
The Indian Hill School District celebrates Indian Hill Elementary School securing six of the top 10 elementary teams in the city and state, including first place in the Stock Market Game, sponsored by the non-profit Alpaugh Family Economics Center, University of Cincinnati (UC). The top-performing team included Deven Athota, Hudson Goss, Mary Blair Williams, and Addix Vandemark. That team finished the 10-week simulation with a total equity of $109,965.62 and will advance to compete in the Spring session for the grand prize.
“The stock market is a somewhat abstract concept for students,” said Betsy Henning,
Indian Hill Elementary School instructional coach. “Participation in the Stock Market Game is often their introduction to elements of financial literacy. Students learn as they are playing the simulation in real-time. It allows students to see how consumers, trends and events have real world impacts on economics.”
Thanks to sponsorship from the Indian Hill PTO, the entire fifth-grade class participated in the Stock Market Game this fall—marking the fifth consecutive year the PTO has supported the program. From October through December, students researched real companies, made investment decisions, and tracked performance based on real-time market activity.
“This program brings critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application together in a powerful way,” said Indian Hill Elementary School Principal Whitney Buell. “Our students aren’t just learning about economics—they’re learning how informed decisions, research, and perseverance lead to success. We are incredibly proud of their achievement.”
