On April 27, Cincinnati Country Day School once again proudly hosted a naturalization ceremony on campus during which 46 individuals were sworn in as United States citizens.
The Carey Family Amphitheater was designated as a United States courthouse for the day as we welcomed America’s 46 newest citizens representing 17 countries: Bhutan, Egypt, France, Ghana, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Mexico, Morocco, South Korea, Thailand, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. Each took the Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America, marking the culmination of their journey to citizenship.
The Honorable Susan J. Dlott presided over the ceremony. The Upper School Nighthawk Choir performed the National Anthem, and members of the Middle School Singing Nighthawks led the Pledge of Allegiance. Students from all divisions were in attendance, bearing witness to this meaningful civic moment.
Head of School Rob Zimmerman `98 welcomed the new citizens and reflected on the significance of their decision, especially as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary. “Each of our guests today made a choice to become a citizen of America,” says Zimmerman. “They have examined this country—in all of its contradictions and challenges—and they have said: This is a project I wish to join.”
Surrounded by family members, faculty, and community guests, the ceremony served as both a celebration of new beginnings and a powerful reminder of the enduring promise of the American ideal.
