IH ARTS CONSERVATORY: Indian Hill High School Choral Students Earn Top Honors at WorldStrides Competition in California

Braves take the stage in Anaheim and Los Angeles

The Indian Hill School District and the Indian Hill Arts Conservatory celebrate the Indian Hill High School choral program for earning top honors in Anaheim and Los Angeles, where students took the stage at the WorldStrides Heritage Performance California competition. The Braves performed four selections for a panel of judges and were recognized with outstanding results, as the choir earned a Gold Rating, tied for second place in their division, and received the prestigious Spirit of Anaheim Award.

“This trip was such an incredible opportunity for our students, both artistically and personally,” said Indian Hill Arts and Activities Director Amy Clark. We are so proud of the dedication and hard work these students have shown all year long, and it was exciting to watch that commitment recognized at such a high level. Experiences like this are exactly what the IH Arts Conservatory is all about, giving students meaningful opportunities to explore their passions, challenge themselves, and create lasting memories together.”

Additionally, students immersed themselves in a wide range of artistic and professional experiences that highlighted the power of music, collaboration, and creative exploration.

The journey began with a behind-the-scenes visit to Warner Bros. Studio and ended with a day spent exploring Disneyland prior to the final awards ceremony. Students also participated in an exceptional clinical learning session with Dr. Chris Peterson, Professor of Music at California State University Fullerton, and award-winning composer Jennifer Lucy Cook. During the session, students performed their competition repertoire, including a composition written by Cook, and received meaningful feedback and instruction designed to strengthen and elevate their performances.

“Seeing our students engage with music professionals at such a high level was the highlight of our trip,” said Indian Hill High School Choir Director Angelo Sylvester. “Not only were they able to connect with Dr. Peterson of California State Fullerton, but they worked with composer Jennifer Lucy Cook on her compositions and picked their brains over developing a career in music. What a delight to see our students grow as performers while also learning about the robust opportunities available to them as emerging professionals!”

The educational experiences continued with an inspiring panel discussion featuring accomplished professionals from across the music industry, including Scott Sheppard, Charlie Rhoad, Kyle Goold, and Drew McKeon, three of whom are Indian Hill alumni. Students heard firsthand about career pathways in music, the realities of working in the arts industry, and the dedication and perseverance required to succeed in creative professions.

“To see them perform, learn from professionals, and grow in confidence throughout the week was special,” said Clark. “This is true especially in regard to networking with alumni, who have lived the unparalleled arts experience Indian Hill has to offer and can connect with current students about how they too can journey from student to professional within the arts.”
