Ben’s Bookshelf
Well, Dear Readers, I have to admit that recently the majority of my TBR* pile has been moved to the DNF** pile. Not sure what it is, but it’s probably me, not the books. Spring Fever, maybe. When I get into a rut like that, an afternoon with a cold drink and an old friend like Chester Himes or Raymond Chandler will usually set me to rights. I think I’m going to have to make arrangements for such a reunion. In the meantime, since we are approaching the half-way point of 2026, I thought it might be interesting to look at the most borrowed books for adults at the Hyde Park Branch so far this year:
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans – An epistolary novel that tells the life story of a woman through her letters.
Orbital by Samantha Harvey – 2024 Booker Prize winning fiction about a day in the life of six astronauts in space.
Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Harvey – Two writers compete over who will write the sensational biography of an aging heiress.
Buckeye by Patrick Ryan – Post-war historical fiction about the tribulations of a family in a small town in Ohio.
