Best Reads for Early Summer

By Chris Weber

This early summer brings new books by many of our favorite fiction authors. Below are some of my favorites. Hope you all have a wonderful summer vacation!

More Than Enough by Anna Quindlen

Bottom line – no one knows you quite like your book club. For English teacher, Polly Goodman, nothing could be truer, even if the members don’t read the books! I loved the slowness and character development in this book. I loved Polly’s husband, a vet at a zoo, who always supports her quest to become a mother. Her brother, who always says the right thing. And all the members of the book club who bind themselves together through all of the hard parts of life. You will cherish every character!

Whistler by Ann Patchett

Sometimes when you read a novel, the pages just fly by! You find yourself so immersed in the characters’ lives that you almost become one with the book. That is exactly what happened to me when I read Whistler. The story of a fifty-three-year-old woman who accidentally runs into a long-lost stepfather whom she has not seen for many years. Not since a fateful event changed their lives forever. Now that they are reunited, they have the chance to redefine the future. A genuinely beautiful story about the love between a daughter and her stepfather.

The Midnight Train by Matt Haig

No one can change the past, but if you had the chance to go back and re-live those moments that meant the most to you, would you? In this novel, the author gives you the opportunity to do just that by time-travelling aboard the Midnight Train. Of course, you must give up the present, but maybe that’s not too difficult to do. If you liked The Midnight Library, then you will love this book!

Books to look out for:

The Last Mandarin by Louise Penny

One Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune

Ironwood: A Catalina Novel by Michael Connelly

It Could Have Been Her by Lisa Jewell

Stuart Woods’ Deep Water by Brett Battles

A Murder in Hollywood by Michael Crichton

The Foursome by Christina Baker Kline

Cool Machine (The Harlem Trilogy) by Colson Whitehead
