Illustrator Lucie Rice and Stained-glass artist Jane Pompilio Dazzle
Story and Photos by Mary Casey-Sturk
Storytellers in Ink & Glass opened on Friday, November 6 to a large crowd who came to see the creations of these local artists.
Both Rice and Pompilio grew up in Fort Thomas and are Highlands High School graduates.
Now through November 22, visitors to this exhibit can explore their visual storytelling methods within one gallery setting.
Rice’s detailed illustrations are playful, and you’ll see that animals and nature are a recurring theme. Now based in Carmel, Indiana, Rice shared more with the opening night guests about her influences and process. Since childhood, Rice has been creating both whimsical and wonderful works, Rice also thanked long-time friend and collaborator, Jane Pompilio.
Pompilio has been working in stained glass for more than three decades and is also the author of “Where do the Birds Go at Night?”, a children’s book featuring her illustrations. Locally, she continues to create for Kaleidoscope Stained Glass in Covington.
If you haven’t seen them already, look at the beautiful stained-glass inspired art that Rice created for the front windows of the building. These lovely designs depict both the history and the nature of Fort Thomas.
The exhibition also offers an opportunity to learn about 8 North’s plans to improve accessibility. The organization is developing plans for an elevator and a rear addition to help more people participate in activities throughout the building.
Work from both artists, including books, prints and ornaments, are for sale during the duration of the exhibit (while supplies last).
