On Wednesday, July 16th, YWCA Greater Cincinnati unveiled its new pet-friendly shelter spaces, making it the first domestic violence shelter in the region to welcome survivors and their pets.
In partnership with Greater Good Charities, RedRover, and Purina’s Purple Leash Project, this renovation eliminates a heartbreaking barrier that has kept many survivors from seeking safety.
The upgrades to YWCA’s new shelter, “Francie’s House,” include six pet-friendly rooms, a fenced relief yard, enrichment spaces, and an on-site pet grooming station, creating a safe, healing environment for survivors and their animals.
The Francie Garber Pepper House of Healing welcomed visitors and shared their commitment to helping survivors of domestic violence and their pets.
Less than 20% of domestic violence shelters nationwide accept pets, yet nearly half of survivors delay leaving abuse due to pet concerns. This transformation ensures that survivors in our region no longer face that impossible decision.
