I’d discovered Stephen King and Clive Barker by the time Goosebumps had come out, so I’d never really looked at one until my own kids were old enough to enjoy them. My personal favorite of the bunch is The Haunted Mask, because it reminds me of The Monster’s Ring by Bruce Coville — about a kid who finds the greatest Halloween costume of all time… that maybe comes with a few strings attached.
The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson. A brain surgeon looks back on the summer his odd-duck uncle took him and his new friends on a tour of sites of strange and ghostly occurrences. Locations that prove to be truly haunted, but by tragic memories disguised as campfire story specters. A nostalgic coming of age story that hits all the right notes.
Slasher Summer by E.L. Chen. My teenage daughter snagged this on summer break and I’ve been trying (and failing) to get my hands on it since. I fear it is now lost to the sinister void of her haunted bedroom, so I’ll have to get my copy from the library. Looks to be a breezy horror movie homage full of winks and nods.
