United Way of Greater Cincinnati recently announced a new cross-sector partnership aimed at improving educational outcomes. Amplify, led by United Way, will coordinate and connect support for students and families. Guided by the StriveTogether cradle-to-career framework — an approach that originated in Cincinnati — the initiative draws on a proven model used by communities nationwide.
Amplify brings together community leaders, partners and resources to address family and community challenges so that all children can achieve full economic mobility. Informed by data, Amplify will strengthen supports like mentoring and providing stable housing, access to childcare, nutritious food and reliable transportation. The goal is to create positive conditions so that every child has a full and fair opportunity to thrive, from early childhood to adulthood, no matter where they grow up.
United Way President and CEO, Moira Weir, announced Amplify on October 8 during A Brighter Tomorrow, a biennial event for United Way supporters hosted at The Anderson Pavilion on the opening night of BLINK.
“Amplify isn’t about creating one more program,” said Weir. “There is already extraordinary work happening throughout Greater Cincinnati. Our job is to bring people together around shared outcomes and shared language, to understand what is working, learn where gaps remain and align our resources so we can make good work more powerful.”
United Way is initially focusing efforts in a few neighborhoods — East Westwood, Lincoln Heights, Villages at Roll Hill, and Westwood — working closely with residents, schools, nonprofit partners and local leaders to concentrate resources and deliver early wins. In time, the partnership will grow and apply learnings and solutions across Greater Cincinnati.
